IMPROVING MARKET BOOSTS CONSTRUCTION CONFIDENCE

According to the latest Infrastructure Association of Queensland Spotlight Report, there is much to be positive about across our industry, as project activity, business confidence, employment, business performance and revenue are all growing in Queensland.

QMCA CEO, Jon Davies, welcomed the report’s findings “As QMCA highlighted with the 2018 Major Pipeline Projects Report, there are signs that the pipeline of major project work across the state is improving. The IAQ report directly reflects the trends that we are seeing from our members, who although working with extremely fine margins, are reporting that future growth, employment and project activity are looking positive.”

“Whilst there is still some uncertainty in the major project pipeline, projects such as Brisbane Metro, Cross River Rail and Inland Rail are starting to provide contractors with the surety they need to invest and employ, and this is manifesting itself in the positivity identified in the IAQ Spotlight Report.”

QMCA also believes that positive discussions regarding a City Deal for South-East Queensland can further support the long-term positive outlook for Queensland’s Major Contractors.

“We are also seeing interesting developments in negotiations for a City Deal for South-East Queensland. As has been seen in Townsville, a City Deal can remove politics from infrastructure and build unprecedented collaboration between local, state and federal government to identify, fund and deliver essential infrastructure projects.”

“We hope that as the negotiations continue, the task force achieves its aims and a City Deal is realised. It will ensure that our sector continues to head into positive territory, employs more Queenslanders and delivers the projects that are essential to the long-term economic growth and societal wellbeing of our state,” Mr Davies said.
