Building on CPB’s connection to the North with the Garbutt Magpies

In Mid-2023, CPB Contractors partnered with the Garbutt Magpies Sporting and Cultural Association to provide in-kind project management support for new clubhouse facilities and a sports oval lighting upgrade at Harold Phillips Park, located in the suburb of Garbutt, Townsville.

The Garbutt Magpies was formed in 1955 providing local families with avenues for participating in a number of sports including AFL, cricket, rugby league, softball and vigoro. From the late 1950s the Garbutt Magpies has been a consistent and strong competitor in the Townsville AFL competition. Through sport, the goal of the Garbutt Magpies is to address disadvantage and empower and improve the wellbeing of Indigenous Australian youth.

CPB is providing its skills, knowledge and industry experience to assist the Garbutt Magpies to design and deliver its new facilities, within the terms of their grant funding agreements with Queensland Government’s ‘Active Community Infrastructure’ initiative, and AFL Queensland’s ‘Grand Final Facilities Fund’. CPB’s role includes:

  • Project Governance
  • Cost Planning
  • Program
  • Authority Approvals
  • Procurement and Contract Management

With a strong local focus, CPB is working closely with the Garbutt Magpies and other project stakeholders to deliver this local community project. To date the project has produced an exciting concept design with tenders soon to be called for the first D&C packages.
