INDUSTRY WELCOMES RELEASE OF INLAND RAIL PPP EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Queensland Major Contractors Association has today welcomed the announcement by ARTC that Expressions of Interest (EOI) were now open to design, build, finance and maintain the section from Gowrie outside Toowoomba to Kagaru near Beaudesert.

This section is the most technically complex of the entire Inland Rail programme and includes a 6.5km tunnel through the Toowoomba Range, which will be the largest diameter diesel freight tunnel in the Southern Hemisphere.

QMCA CEO, Jon Davies, encouraged Queensland’s leading construction and design firms to embrace the opportunity “We welcome the announcement calling for expressions of interest and actively encourage Queensland based companies to consider expressing interest in delivering a major project that has the ability to support the growth of our state’s economy and economic output.”

“Inland Rail is a nation building project and forms a major part of the pipeline of infrastructure that will shape Queensland over the next 5 years. In our recently released Queensland Major Projects Pipeline report we stressed the importance of ensuring that major works can and do progress to market quickly and efficiently. The release of the EOI is a clear milestone in the delivery of Inland Rail and we look forward to seeing industry participate, collaborate and use our skills and innovative thinking to deliver this once in a lifetime project” said Mr Davies.
