QMCA CONGRATULATES LNP ON SECURING GOVERNMENT

The Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA) has congratulated David Crisafulli and the Liberal National Party on winning the 2024 Queensland State Election.

“QMCA and our members congratulate Mr Crisafulli and his LNP team on securing government,” said CEO Andrew Chapman.

“As the QMCA pointed out, through our paper “Unshackling QLD’s Infrastructure Potential”, our industry has been held back by policies that have directly and negatively impacted the industry’s ability to deliver infrastructure safely and efficiently.”

“Labour shortages, protracted procurement processes, and a volatile industrial relations landscape have driven costs up and productivity down and, without significant reform, will continue to put at risk the ability to deliver vital infrastructure affordably and efficiently.”

“With an unprecedented pipeline of projects under the Queensland Government’s Big Build program, including health, transport, energy, and water infrastructure, as well as projects needed for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, reform is needed.”

“It was heartening to hear David Crisafulli make the statement last night that building generational infrastructure will be high on the agenda of the incoming government.”

“We look forward to working with the new Government to ensure our industry is best placed to support the state’s growth,” Mr Chapman said.

Ahead of the election, the Queensland Major Contractors Association called on all parties to commit to:

  • Coordinating the Big Build: Establishing a whole-of-government approach to ensure efficient delivery of the state’s infrastructure pipeline.
  • Reforming industrial relations: Removing restrictive policies, such as the so-called Best Practice Industrial Conditions (BPIC) and other elements, to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Fostering innovation: Encouraging the rapid deployment of new technologies and approaches to maximise value for money.

“QMCA looks forward to working with the new state government and a reinstated Productivity Commission on its review of the construction industry to unshackle our industry and remove policy settings that have harmed productivity, increased project costs and diminished the return on investment for taxpayers across Queensland.”

“Coordinating the Big Build, reforming industrial relations and related policies, scrapping the restrictive Best Practice Industrial Conditions (BPIC), and fostering innovation through new technologies and approaches are key areas we look forward to working with the new state government on,” said Mr Chapman.
