QMCA Welcomes Historic Games Infrastructure Funding Agreement

The Queensland Major Contractors Association has welcomed the landmark $7.1 billion funding agreement between the Queensland and Australian Governments to deliver critical infrastructure ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

QMCA CEO Andrew Chapman praised the deal as a major milestone in delivering a once-in-a-generation legacy for Queensland.

“This announcement sets the foundation for a transformational decade of legacy infrastructure delivery in Queensland associated with the 2032 Games,” Mr Chapman said. “The commitment from both the State and Federal Governments provides much-needed certainty of funding to industry and supports the efficient planning and delivery of world-class venues and supporting infrastructure for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.”

The agreement includes the planning and delivery of 17 new and upgraded venues across Queensland including the main Games stadium and National Aquatic Centre.

Mr Chapman highlighted the importance of collaboration and long-term planning. “This funding agreement represents more than just support for the Games; it is an investment in Queensland’s economic, social, and infrastructure legacy. It will create jobs and allow our industry to contribute to infrastructure that will serve our communities for decades to come.”

QMCA also commended the bipartisan cooperation between governments, saying it sends a strong message about Queensland’s ability to host a world-class Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The collaboration shown in this agreement is exactly what we need to deliver Brisbane 2032 on time, on budget, and to the highest standard,” Mr Chapman said. “As an industry, we look forward to working collaboratively with GIICA, government, industry and communities to ensure that these projects are delivered with excellence and create a meaningful legacy for future generations.”

QMCA looks forward to assisting GIICA and the state government in delivering successful infrastructure for Brisbane 2032 and ensuring that industry capability is harnessed to its full potential in the years ahead.
