Visy Champions Sustainability and Innovation at QMCA Awards

Ahead of this Friday’s QMCA Awards, Iain Harris, Executive General Manager of Operational Excellence at Visy, has underscored the importance of the Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA) awards to their organisation, highlighting the symbiotic relationship between Visy and the construction industry.

“Queensland’s construction industry makes a significant contribution to the economy and sustainability of the state,” Iain stated. “The QMCA awards provide Visy with an opportunity to partner with this vibrant and innovative sector, aligning with our long-standing commitment to sustainability and investing in the economic future of regional communities.”

“With over half a billion dollars’ worth of investment currently under construction in the state, Visy has firsthand experience of the industry’s continuous delivery of excellent projects and solutions for Queenslanders.”

Reflecting on the entries submitted into their category this year, Iain expressed admiration for the exceptional quality of submissions in the Sustainability and Community category.

“Visy was very impressed by the exceptionally high quality of all the entries,” Iain remarked.

He noted how these entries reflect the innovative spirit of the awards, with each showcasing innovative solutions and agile approaches to sustainability and community engagement.

“These entries demonstrated a high standard of innovation and agility,” Iain explained. “Supporting the Sustainability and Community Award aligns closely with Visy’s business ethos, as sustainability is central to every decision we make.”

Iain emphasised their commitment to minimising environmental impact, promoting responsible sourcing, and driving positive social impact through innovative and sustainable solutions..

Industry awards, particularly in construction and infrastructure, play a crucial role in celebrating excellence and innovation, according to Iain. He highlighted their importance in encouraging the sector to deliver exceptional projects and solutions for clients and the community.

“By celebrating excellence and innovation, we’re encouraging the sector to deliver exceptional projects and solutions,” Iain stated. “We know firsthand the significant contribution the construction and infrastructure sector makes to the economy.”

He pointed to Visy’s own collaboration with the sector, exemplified by their $2 billion investment commitment to transform recycling and remanufacturing in Australia, with $700 million earmarked for Queensland alone. As an example, Iain mentioned the construction of their new glass recycling and remanufacturing super site in Stapylton, just south of Brisbane.

Visy’s endorsement of the QMCA awards reinforces their dedication to sustainability, innovation, and partnership within the construction and infrastructure sector.
