QMCA Welcomes Additional Inland Rail Investment

Queensland Major Contractors Association welcomes the announcement by the Federal Government of an additional $5.5bn in funding for Inland Rail, which will see continued investment ensuring jobs are created, supporting the entire construction supply chain and significantly enhancing a generational infrastructure project.

Enhancements to the design include more than 4,500 additional culverts, nine additional viaducts, an additional 6.8 kilometres of bridges, 10 extra grade separations, approximately 450 kilometres of additional fencing, as well as removing 139 level crossings. These enhancement will ensure that the project delivers an asset that is not only functional but critically will deliver efficient rail freight operations for a long time.

QMCA CEO Andrew Chapman welcomed the additional investment, “Inland Rail is a truly transformative project that will deliver economic benefits for the whole of Australia and industry is delighted to see the Federal Government committing additional project funding. During the delivery and operational phases, the project will see jobs created, long term economic growth stimulated, and significant benefits created for regional Queensland. It will also ensure that Inland Rail becomes a freight powerhouse, meeting the objectives the project has to enable the rapid and efficient movement of produce and services from source to national and global markets.”

“QMCA is a leading advocate for nation-building infrastructure as we understand the multiplier effect every dollar invested has on the wider economy. The federal government should be praised for ensuring that Inland Rail is funded and delivered for the benefit of the industries and communities that it serves,” said Mr Chapman.
